Practicing Recorder - General Notes for All Grades
Goal: to practice recorder a half hour per week
Begin by reflecting on your personal family schedule and decide which configuration is most likely going to work for your child and your family.
-- 5 minutes/day, 6 days/week-before/after dinner? Before free play?
-- 10 minutes per day, 3 days per week - ideally Tuesday after recorder class, once on the weekend, and Monday evening before recorder class
-- 15 minutes per day, 2 days per week - best choices are Tuesday or Wednesday, and Sunday or Monday
-- 30 minutes, once in the week
Only you know what will work for you, but it is preferable to pick a schedule and try and stick with it as closely as possible. We give stickers to reward preparedness, practicing, and completing homework assignments. Maybe you could have a reward system of some kind that would add extra incentive.
Your students want to be prepared and successful in class. Only with your help will they learn to establish a regular schedule that is reasonable with their other obligations. No skills are mastered without practice, and it is to their advantage to learn young how to set realistic, achievable goals for themselves.
Thanks,
Alli & Carol
